Meet Tim

Tim Hupe, the owner of Rooted Brigham Greenhouses, has always had a passion for gardening, but it truly blossomed during his time working alongside Chris Dooley, the former owner of Brigham Greenhouses from 2021 to 2023, who continues to mentor Tim today.

Before moving to Concord in 2019, Tim and his family spent 11 years in Bangkok, Thailand, where he and his wife, Amy, raised their two daughters, Elijah and Arielle. After several years in the non-profit sector fighting against human trafficking, in 2013, Tim and Amy founded their own organization, the Creative Life Foundation. Their mission is focused on prevention, tackling the root causes of human trafficking by providing education scholarships and mentorship to vulnerable children, ultimately breaking generational cycles of poverty and exploitation.

As the director of a nonprofit and the owner of a greenhouse, Tim takes great pride in his dual roles. Tim finds joy in knowing that every plant purchased from Rooted Brigham Greenhouses will bring happiness to someone. Whether it’s a houseplant adding life to a room, a hanging basket brightening up a porch, or a vegetable plant flourishing in someone’s home garden, he finds immense satisfaction in the positive impact his work has on others.

With a strong passion for social justice, Tim is motivated by the knowledge that the profits from their sales benefit both the planet and its people. To learn more about how your plant purchase is making a difference, visit the impact page.

Adding to the joy of his work, he gets to work and collaborate with his very talented childhood friend, Nick, who has been a friend of Tim's since the fourth grade.

Meet Nick

Nick Mamakos grew up in Natick, Massachusetts, where he met Tim Hupe in the fourth grade. Their childhood friendship would grow into a lifelong one.

Even as a child, Nick had a fascination and love of plants and trees. Always with his hands in the dirt, Nick loved working and being outside. After high school, Nick attended Massasoit Community College, where he studied art. After that, he moved to Los Angeles, an experience that broadened his perspective and deepened his appreciation for plants and craftsmanship, and hands-on work.

After seven years living in Southern California, Nick returned to Massachusetts to pursue his passion for woodworking, enrolling at the renowned North Bennett St. school in Boston. He graduated in 2010 with formal training in fine furniture making. After graduation, Nick spent a year living on the island of Kauai, embracing Island life before returning once again to Natick. Back home, he worked in construction and fine furniture, refining his skills and building a reputation for quality craftsmanship.

When the furniture company he was working for began to shut down, a perfectly timed phone call changed everything. Tim reached out with an idea to open a greenhouse. The opportunity aligned seamlessly with Nick’s experience, work ethic, and readiness for new challenges. The answer was an immediate yes.

Rooted in craftsmanship, adaptability, and an entrepreneurial spirit, Nick’s Journey reflects a willingness to take risks, build with intention, and grow both personally and professionally.
